Grand Kru County, Liberia |March 5, 2026‎| The Engineering Department of Grand Kru Technical College has joined the global community in celebrating World Engineering Day, using the occasion to encourage innovation, sustainability, and broader participation in the engineering profession.

The event, held under the theme “Smart Engineering for Sustainable Future through Innovation and Digitalization,” brought together students, faculty members, administrators, and invited stakeholders to reflect on the critical role engineering plays in driving national and community development.

Delivering the keynote address, engineer John Wain Natt described 2026 as a defining moment for engineers and policymakers to move “from dialogue to delivery” by implementing practical solutions to Liberia’s development challenges.

According to him, engineering must move beyond theoretical discussions to the application of innovative technologies capable of addressing real world issues facing communities across the country.

Mr. Natt also called for increased institutional support for the Engineering Department, stressing that investment in engineering education is essential for preparing the next generation of professionals who will shape the country’s infrastructure and technological advancement.

He pointed to pressing global and local challenges such as climate change and environmental sustainability, emphasizing that engineers play a critical role in designing systems that protect natural resources while promoting long-term development.

“Engineering is not just a profession; it is a pathway to changing the world for the better,” Mr. Natt told participants.

The keynote speaker further encouraged young people, particularly women, to pursue careers in engineering, noting that diversity within the profession strengthens creativity and innovation.

He urged students to see engineering as a powerful tool capable of transforming Grand Kru County, the broader Liberian society, and what he described as “Mama Liberia.”

Meanwhile, members of the college administration and student representatives expressed appreciation for the successful hosting of the program.

They described the event as both inspiring and timely, reaffirming their commitment to supporting engineering education and innovation at Grand Kru Technical College.

World Engineering Day is observed annually around the world to recognize the vital contributions engineers make toward sustainable development, technological advancement, and societal progress.
