Monrovia, Liberia-Thursday, August 13, 2025- The Youth President of the Sapo APOLEOGBO Development Organization, Mr. Oliver Taryee Davis, has made an emotional appeal to the national government to address the pressing issues surrounding the Sapo National Park.

During a recent visit to the park, Mr. Davis expressed deep concern over the overcrowding, poor infrastructure, and unfulfilled promises to host communities.

Describing the current conditions as heartbreaking, Mr. Davis shed tears upon witnessing the deplorable state of learning centers within the park. He emphasized that the park, once sacred to the ancestors, has deteriorated significantly.

The Youth President vowed that the organization would no longer remain silent on the illegal occupation and unauthorized activities within the park.

Mr. Davis is calling for a full review of the agreement that led to the establishment of the park, questioning what benefits were promised to the local communities in return for giving up their forest. He emphasized the need to examine key components of the agreement, including: Community benefits and empowerment, employment opportunities, access to quality education, healthcare, and sanitation, agricultural and development support and Forestry’s corporate social responsibilities respectively

The Youth President noted that local residents have started vacating the park voluntarily and urged the national government to respond appropriately and uphold its obligations under the law. He stated that the organization will not stop until their communities receive the attention and support they were promised.

With a commitment to launching a national campaign to bring attention to these issues and demand accountability, Mr. Davis and the Sapo APOLEOGBO Development Organization are determined to bring about change for the betterment of the Sapo National Park and its host communities.
