Lofa county, Voinjama City, Friday 21, 2025- Heavy Storm has destroyed several houses including the Lofa County University USAID building in Voinjama city.
The storm which took the city by surprise occurred Thursday evening and left several houses damaged in its wake in and around the city. The hurricane –like heavy and forceful wind started at about 7:00pm and lasted for hours in the city and its environs. Currently, some homes and public facilities were completely damaged.

That said, one of the public facilities badly affected by the storm was the Lofa University College. For instance, the building constructed by USAID Liberia for use by the university during the past administration of former President George Weah was completely destroyed by the violent storm.
Additionally, segment of the Voinjama Multilateral High School was also hard hit by the ravaging heavy wind. The popular entertainment club-“DREAMER ENTERTAINMENT CENTER” within vicinity of the military barrack was also brought down.
According to the County Disaster management chairman, Shadriack Fallah, they are collecting statistics to submit to the national chairman the National Disaster Management Commission; Ansu Dulleh.
He disclosed that his team is doing everything possible to make some prompt intervention for disaster victims. Approximately, about 10 buildings were damaged during Thursday night storm in Voinjama alone.
Meanwhile, Voinjama district Commissioner David Mawolo has called on community members to take proper care of their structures and environment especially as they approach the rainy season.
Commissioner Mawolo encouraged community members to strengthen and improved their buildings with aim of preparing ahead of the coming rainy season thus avoiding a recurrence of the present state of affairs.
Every year, Voinjama City and several towns as well as villages are usually affected by natural disasters cause by the heavy down pour of rains including storm, flooding and a host of other unbearable situations caused by nature.
