Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County –Tuesday,Nov. 25,2025–The United Muslim Council of Grand Gedeh has issued a forceful condemnation of the criminal and unscrupulous misuse cum abuse of the Muslim Hijab, demanding immediate government action against perpetrators attempting to commit crimes under the guise of the sacred garment.
In a sharply and strongly worded statement released over the weekend, the Council addressed recent high-profile incidents that have rocked the county; stressing that the integrity of the Hijab is being severely compromised by criminal elements.
Disguise for Crime
The Council specifically cited two alarming and deeply troubling cases where the religious attire was allegedly exploited:
Infant Abduction: The deeply troubling incident involving an individual allegedly using a Muslim Hijab to unlawfully abduct a six-day-old infant from the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital.
Impersonation: The documented case of Abu Konneh, who recently misused the Hijab to disguise himself as a woman while traveling from Maryland to Monrovia via Grand Gedeh.
The group was quick to stress that the alleged perpetrators of these “evil acts” are not members of the Islamic faith, and warned against linking the crimes to the peaceful Muslim community.
They emphasized that Muslim women in Grand Gedeh have historically worn the Hijab as a symbol of dignity, modesty, and respect.
Demand for Swift Justice and Accountability
In a hardline call to action, the United Muslim Council urged the Government of Liberia to speedily investigate all recent incidents related to the misuse of the Hijab and institute appropriate

All perpetrators be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible of the Criminal law of Liberian;
The government must immediately publish the full findings of these investigations to ensure transparency and accountability;
The Statement concluded with an urgent plea to the general public to desist from spreading rumors, hatred, or divisive remarks, calling for continued respect and peaceful coexistence among all religious groupings the county, yea Liberia.
