VOINJAMA, LOFA COUNTY-The Joint Security in Lofa, headed by County Attorney Luther Sumo, on April 3, 2025, burn huge quantity of seized narcotic drugs. The disposal exercise took place in Voinjama City, Lofa County in the presence of members of the joint security, civil society, county and community officials, including Superintendent J. Lavela Massaquoi.

The drugs were seized on March 17, 2025 following a tip-off of the suspicious movement of a black pickup truck with plate # A533348, which was enroute to Monrovia from Sierra Leone.

Al though the month of June is the official date set aside to burn narcotic drugs, the joint security took the decision to burn the drugs in April to demonstrate that the new leadership at the Drugs Enforcement Agency is serious with the fight against illicit drugs.

In separate remarks, officials and members of the joint security called on community members to expose drugs dealers and traffickers in their respective Towns, Villages, and cities.

Lofa County Drugs enforcement Agency commander, Special Agent Kpehe Lomax, told reporters that he will not rest until drugs activities are minimized in Lofa County.

“We will not rest until the county is free of drugs and we want the public to help us with information about people who are doing drugs business in their Towns, Villages and cities” Lofa County LDEA commander Special Agent Kpehe Lomax told reporters.

For his part, Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavela Massaquoi promised that the County will never be used as a point to traffic or do illegal activities.

“We want to ensure our community members, and the Government of Liberia that Lofa will never be used for illegal activities especially drugs trafficking in the region, anyone who is involved in drugs business, please find your way out of Lofa, or else you Will be arrested and send to court”, said Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavela Massaquoi,

The Joint Security of Foya District, led by the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Lofa County Commander and team, few weeks ago intercepted a huge drug shipment valued at $77,200 USD.

The Security team, during the operation, headed by the LDEA, intercepted a driver, identified as Fayiah Lamie, a 43-year-old male from the Mandi tribe and a resident of Monrovia. The suspect, Lamie claimed he was transporting clothes and slippers for sale.

But upon conducting a detailed search of the vehicle, authorities uncovered 772 plates of high-grade marijuana with an estimated street value of $77,200 USD (Seventy-seven thousand, two hundred United States dollars). The equivalent is $14,668,000 (Fourteen million, six hundred sixty-eight thousand Liberian dollars)

Suspect Fayiah Lamie is currently undergoing investigation and is expected to be formally charged and sent to court.
