Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County —Friday, December 5, 2025—Following decades of absence from his homeland, a son of Liberia’s 21st President, Samuel Kanyon Doe; Kuly Teddy Doe has officially established a foundation to honor his late father’s legacy.

Doe Legacy Lives On: Foundation Established in Grand Gedeh

Almost 35 years after the death of Liberia’s former President, Samuel K. Doe (SKD), one of his sons, Kuly Teddy Doe, officially launched the Samuel K. Doe Legacy Foundation on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

The historic ceremony took place at the Grand Gedeh University and was marked by high attendance and palpable community support.

The launch event successfully drew a large crowd, including a substantial number of university students, concerned parents, and the faculty of the institution, highlighting the enduring connection of the Doe family to the region.

    Focus on the Student Community

The foundation’s primary focus, as articulated by Kuly Doe, will be on giving back to the people, starting with the academic community.

During the proceeding, the Student Council Leadership of Grand Gedeh University, headed by Council President Seward Soh, expressed profound gratitude to the foundation’s leader.

Newly constructed Masoleum built in honor and rememberance of late Prresident Samuel K.Doe and his wife ,former First Lady Nancy B. Doe (RIP).

Soh commended Kuly Teddy Doe for his thoughtfulness and commitment to supporting the student body, recognizing the significant impact the foundation is expected to have on their community.

A Tour of Personal History and Expression of Gratitude

Following the successful launch, Kuly Doe undertook a poignant visit to sites of personal significance. He first toured the uncompleted residence of his late father, spending time examining the facility.

Subsequently, he visited the grave site where his late parents, former President Samuel K. Doe and his mother, were laid to rest.

During this emotional visit, Kuly Doe used the opportunity to express his deep appreciation to the people of Grand Gedeh, yea Liberia at large.

Most notably, he singled out President Joseph Nyumah Boakai for high praise, acknowledging the administration’s decision to grant his parents a unique, dignified and honorable State burial.

This gesture, he indicated, was a powerful act of closure and respect.

    Forward-Looking Commitment

Concluding his remarks, Kuly Teddy Doe reaffirmed the foundational purpose of the new organization. He revealed that his immediate and long-term focus is centered entirely on philanthropy and community development, which will be channeled through the efforts of the SKD Legacy Foundation.

The foundation’s official launch signals a new chapter in honoring the former President’s memory by investing directly into the future of Grand Gedeh through educational and community support initiatives.
