Monrovia, Liberia, Friday, Nov. 28, 2025 — The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) has conducted an inspection of the Liberia Electricity Corporation’s (LEC) thermal and solar power facilities as part of its routine regulatory oversight ahead of the dry season. The highly important took place on Wednesday, November 26,2025.

The tour began at the Bushrod Island Thermal Plant before the delegation travelled to the Mount Coffee site, where construction is underway on a 20MW utility-scale solar power facility.

The LERC delegation was led by the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Hon. Claude J. Katta, accompanied by Hon. Amara M. Kamara, Commissioner, and Hon. Decontee Abu Sanso, Director of Technical Regulations. They were joined by LEC’s Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Hon. Thomas Z. Gonkerwon, Deputy Managing Director for Technical Services Hon. Mohammed L. Sow, along with representatives of the RESPITE Project team and the contracting firm responsible for constructing and commissioning the solar plant.

Speaking during the visit, Chairman Katta expressed satisfaction with the progress made by LEC, noting improvements in system stability and describing the inspection as impressive. He called on the corporation to continue expanding electricity supply, particularly in newly licensed areas, and to build on these gains to ensure reliable access to power for all Liberians.

Responding on behalf of LEC, Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Hon. Thomas Gonkerwon assured the public that the corporation is working diligently to maintain stable electricity supply as demand continues to grow and especially during the dry season.
