Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County-Friday, Sept 12,2025-The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has for the first time launched its Back-to-School Support Project at the Zwedru Multilateral High School, providing educational supplies to vulnerable students, including persons living disabilities and orphans.
Speaking on behalf of the National Lottery Authority Madam Helena Bobo Dour Assistant Director for social welfare expressed gratitude for the warm welcome from faculty, staff, and students. She acknowledged the leadership of NLA Director General Hon. Peter L. Solo for his farsightedness to contribute to the education of the disabled.
The initiative, Madam Dour explained, is part of NLA’s mandate to support persons with disabilities, orphans, the elderly, indigent Liberians, and welfare institutions across the country. “Recognizing the financial challenges that parents face, especially those caring for children with disabilities, this donation is intended to ease the burden of back-to-school expenses,” she said.
The donation included among other stationaries, seven cartons of copy books, bags, pens, erasers.
She further lamented that the supplies is meant specifically for students living with disabilities and those from the needed backgrounds. The National Lottery Authority team emphasized that while the need is widespread, the supplies were targeted at the most vulnerable groups.
Welcoming the delegation, Principal Gabriel Weah Bohlen thanked the NLA for choosing Zwedru Multilateral High School for the donation. He described the gesture as both timely and impactful, highlighting that many families in the county struggle to afford basic school materials.
Institutions that benefited include: Zwedru multilateral High School, Tubman Wilson Institute, Gbagba high school, and Kpelleh Zohn elementary school respectively.
The principal further noted that the NLA’s involvement carried added significance because its Director General, Hon. Solo, is a son of Grand Gedeh County. “For too long, our leaders in national positions have not extended such support. Today, the presence of the NLA team assures us that we have someone at the top who remembers his people,” Principal Bohlen said.
The NLA’s Back-to-School Support Project has already been extended to Maryland County and Zwedru Limit, with Grand Gedeh being the latest beneficiary. The program reflects the institution’s broader mission to use lottery proceeds for social welfare and public good.
As schools across Liberia reopen, the NLA pledged to continue rolling out similar support initiatives, reinforcing its role as a partner in education and community development.
