Voinjama City, Lofa County-Thursday, October 16, 2025-The official Groundbreaking ceremony of the project titled “BUILDING CLIMATE RESILIENCE IN LOFA COUNTY THROUGH STRENGTHENED WATER SECURITY SYSTEMS AND IMPROVED MUNICIPAL SANITATION” on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 took place in Voinjama City.
The project is supported and funded by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).
According to Lofa County Development officer, Mr. Francis Egu Lansana under this project, major drainages in the city of Voinjama will be opened to minimize the effect of erosion in the city during the rainy season.
Mr. Lansana said Lofa and Nimba are the two counties benefiting from the project under the “The Building Climate Resilience” project. CDO Lansana also added that the project is expected to be dedicated on December 20, 2025 when completed by the contractors.
“Bridges will be constructed to connect major streets in Voinjama under this project especially swampy areas,” Mr. Lansana, the County Development officer said when providing the over view of the project.
For his part, Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavelah Massaquoi called on citizens, stakeholders in Voinjama City to consider the project as their own. “Consider this project as your own because it will benefit you directly, if you see contractors selling cement or any of the materials that supposed to be used for the project, exposed them; because the project is for you,” Superintendent Massaquoi told to stakeholders in attendance.
Conclusively, the ground breaking ceremony was attended by District commissioners, the religious community, civil society council, disabled community, representatives from different sectors and the marketers.
