Monrovia, Liberia | Friday, Dec. 19, 2025 | The Liberia Telecommunications Authority’s (LTA) Anti-Fraud Section has launched a two-day Anti-Fraud Sensitization and Awareness Campaign in Kakata, Margibi County, aiming to educate citizens about the risks of falling victim to fraudsters during the festive season.
The team, led by Anti-Fraud Enforcement Officer Shadrick G. Tougbay, visited schools, marketplaces, entertainment centers, and communities, warning people about common tactics used by fraudsters, such as scams, identity theft, and online phishing.
“Fraudsters often target vulnerable individuals, especially during this time of year when people are more focused on celebrations and gifts,” Tougbay said. “We’re here to empower our citizens with the knowledge to protect themselves and their loved ones.”
The activities included visits to Morris’ Farm and Kakata’s General Market, where the team spoke to residents, motorcyclists, and market vendors. They also appeared live on Radio Margibi FM 103.7, engaging with callers and listeners.
“We want to encourage everyone to be cautious when dealing with unfamiliar individuals or transactions,” Tougbay urged. “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Verify information, and never share personal or financial details with strangers.”
The awareness campaign will continue tomorrow with more engagements across the county, including visits to schools and community centers. The initiative is part of the Department of International Gateway Services’ efforts to combat fraud and protect citizens.
