Zorzor City, Lofa County—Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025—The student body of the Lutheran University of Liberia, Phebe Esther Bacon College of Health Sciences in Zorzor, Lofa County, has announced a major initiative aimed at purchasing a campus bus to support academic activities and reduce the growing transportation burden on students.

Revealed on November 27, 2025, “The Student’s Project: Purchasing of a Bus” seeks to address long-standing transportation challenges affecting clinical rotations, field trips, sporting events, and other academic-related movements.

According to the student leadership, the initiative is crucial in ensuring that health science students participate effectively in their clinical practices, as many are required to travel to out-station clinics and health facilities as part of their training.

The students emphasized that the lack of consistent transportation has hindered their ability to fully engage in clinical activities, a key requirement for strengthening their practical skills.

    Purpose and Expected Impact

    The project aims to:

Provide reliable transportation for students during clinical rotations and academic outings.

Enhance students’ clinical skills by improving access to varied health facilities for hands-on practice.

Reduce transportation costs for students and parents during field trips, sporting events, affiliations, and other institutional activities.

Student leaders say the initiative represents more than just purchasing a bus—it is an investment in improving training quality and ensuring academic excellence within the institution.

    Funding Strategies

To finance the project, the students have outlined a four-point fundraising strategy:

    1. Mandatory student contribution of L$2,000 per person.

    2. Written communication to stakeholders, alumni, community leaders, and well-meaning residents for support.

    3. B|P campaign activities aimed at increasing awareness and mobilizing additional funds.

    4. Fundraising events to engage the wider public and solicit financial contributions.

The leadership expressed optimism that with collective commitment from students, community members, and stakeholders, the bus project will become a reality, ultimately improving the learning environment at the Zorzor campus.

The Lutheran University’s Phebe Esther Bacon College of Health Sciences remains one of the key institutions training Liberia’s next generation of healthcare professionals, and the proposed bus project is seen as a strategic step toward strengthening that mission.
