Behwan City, Grand Kru County |Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025 |Authorities at Behwan Police Station have launched an investigation following an alleged statutory rape involving a 10-year-old girl identified as Bettina Daryoun Kalydou, widely known in the community as the “Iron Lady.”

According to police reports, the incident came to light on December 5, around 12:20 p.m., when the station received information concerning the alleged assault.

Bettina, a student and member of the Grebo tribe, resides in Behwan City with her parents, Felicia and Emmanuel Daryoun.

The accused, Fredrick Weah, aged 18 and also of the Grebo tribe, is reported to be a resident of the same neighborhood in Behwan City, Known locally as “Sharpie Kilo,” Weah is alleged to have committed the offense while the victim’s mother was away.

Following the tip-off, Trehn District Police Commander summoned the victim’s parents for verification.

Felicia Daryoun in her ordeal expressed concerns over her daughter’s deteriorating health and unusual behavior prior to seeking medical assistance at Behwan Health Center.

According to Police investigation, medical evaluation prompted the victim to disclose that Weah had forcibly engaged in sexual intercourse with her and threatened her against reporting the incident.

Fredrick Weah was promptly arrested, advised of his rights under Liberian law, and is currently undergoing further police interrogation.

He has denied the allegations, asserting his innocence and lack of knowledge regarding the matter.

The victim remains under medical care at Behwan Health Center as investigations continue.

Authorities have assured the citizens that they are treating the case with the utmost seriousness and are committed to due process.
