In Voinjama, Lofa County, several marketers have complained about slow buying ahead of Liberia’s 178th Independence Day celebration. “The buying is slow”, marketers said in a random interview with Rural Reporters News Network (RRNN).
Every year in Liberia, July 26 is celebrated as Liberia Independent Day across the Country. During this period, friends and family members share gifts, including family visitations.
This morning, RRNN Lofa County Correspondent, J. Mason Kollie did a random survey of commercial activities in different locations in Voinjama city. Most Marketers interviewed said that buying was going slow as expected. Some attributed the slow buying to more sellers than buyers.

“We have to move from one community to another to sell auction goods to customers, because we spent the whole day on the table but no buying” a seller John Forkpa narrated. Another seller who sells at the Voinjama central market said: “Some days, I spent the whole day I can’t receive a single buyer to buy a single slapper, and this is what we depend on to also support our Children and other friends during this time of the year, July 26, but there is no means of selling our Markets because we the sellers are plenty that the buyers”, Weedor Yankoi lamented.
During the random survey, many pedestrians concord with the marketers that there are more sellers and less buyers because of the lack of job opportunity from both government and the private sector.
“As a result of lack of job, there are more sellers especially during festive holidays and that is the reason why at this point we have more sellers and less buyers”, some were heard saying.
