Fissebu, Lofa County –Sunday, September 7, 2025-A major boost for rural education is on the horizon after Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi, Chairman of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) Board of Commissioners, pledged internet access and scholarships to graduates of the Zorzor Rural Teacher Training Institute (ZRTTI).
Speaking Saturday at the graduation of 69 in-service teachers specializing in Early Childhood Education, Massaquoi announced plans to connect the institute’s main campus to reliable internet through Star connectivity. He also committed scholarships for the nine top-performing graduates of the program.
“The Government of Liberia, under the leadership of President Joseph N. Boakai, is dedicated to changing the narrative surrounding education and technology access in our communities,” Massaquoi said, stressing that bridging the gap between education and technology is vital to national progress.
For ZRTTI, located in rural Lofa County, the initiative could prove transformative. Administrators said internet connectivity will give teachers and students access to digital resources, global teaching tools, and new training opportunities—resources long out of reach in rural classrooms.
Massaquoi also presented L$69,000 to cover transportation for all 69 graduates returning home to their respective counties. The gesture was met with applause from attendees, who hailed it as a show of personal commitment to the graduates’ success.
Graduates and administrators alike described the pledges as a “turning point.” While scholarships would ease financial pressure, they noted, internet access will improve lesson planning, research, and classroom performance.
Best known for his role in regulating telecommunications, Massaquoi is increasingly emerging as an advocate for integrating education and technology. His commitments at ZRTTI underscore the government’s broader push to modernize rural learning institutions while addressing long-standing challenges in teacher training.
