Barclayville City, Grand Kru County – November 14, 2025–More than one hundred private candidates are expected to sit the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) re–sit this year in Grand Kru County, marking a significant milestone in local education efforts despite previous years of poor performance among re–sitters.

The Grand Kru County Education Officer is quoted as saying; many young people in Grand Kru have long struggled to retake the national exams due to the absence of a testing center within the county.

County Education Officer Josiah Sloh Negba who is spearheading effort to ensure that the Resit become a reality.

He said this challenge has slowed the academic progress of numerous residents eager to pursue higher education opportunities.

CEO Josiah Sloh Negba revealed that, following a series of engagements between the Grand Kru Technical College, the County Education Office, and the WASSCE head office in Monrovia, approval was granted for Grand Kru County to host the re–sit examination locally for the first time in several years.

“This decision brings immense relief to our candidates,” Nagbe said. “Many of them could not afford to travel to other counties just to rewrite the exam. Hosting it here in Barclayville will ease both the financial and logistical burden.”

The Grand Kru County Education Officer noted that over one hundred candidates have registered since the registration window, which ran from September to October 2025, and preparations are ongoing for the upcoming tests.

According to him, the local hosting of the exams will greatly reduce transportation and accommodation costs that often discourage participation.

In anticipation of the examination, the County Education Office, in collaboration with the Grand Kru Technical College, has launched a two-week intensive tutorial program to help candidates strengthen their knowledge and improve their performance.

Josiah Sloh Negba urged all registered candidates to make full use of the tutorials, describing the initiative as a “gateway to success” for those determined to excel in the national exams.

“We are confident that this year’s performance will be better,” CEO Josiah Sloh Negba emphasized. “With the right preparation and support, our students can overcome past challenges.”

It can be recalled that candidates in 2017, 2021, and 2022 also sat for similar re–sit examinations in Grand Kru County, but results were less than satisfactory.

However, with the renewed local effort, improved support systems, and a higher number of registrants this year, education authorities remain optimistic about achieving stronger outcomes.

The introduction of a local WASSCE re–sit center is expected to encourage more young people to continue their academic pursuits, signaling progress toward strengthening the education sector in Grand Kru County.
