Barclayville City, Grand Kru County | Jan. 10,2026|  A resident and petty trader of Barclayville City, Madam Linda Dweh, has made a heartfelt appeal to the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus and the Government of Liberia to design and implement programs aimed at empowering local businesses.

Madam Dweh, who earns her livelihood selling food and drinks in Barclayville, described the current business climate in the area as discouraging and threatening to the survival of small-scale traders. She said persistent economic hardships have made it extremely difficult for businesspeople to sustain themselves, with many struggling to even recover their daily investments.

According to her, small business owners—who form the backbone of the local economy—are being overlooked, and she urged the national government to move beyond its comfort zone and prioritize the welfare of ordinary Liberians.

Madam Dweh emphasized the need for practical empowerment initiatives, including access to small loans, capacity-building programs, and trader-friendly policies that would ease the burden on petty traders and help revive business activities in the county.

She further pointed to poor road connectivity, limited employment opportunities, and low income levels among residents as key factors contributing to reduced purchasing power in Barclayville and surrounding communities.

“Without good roads and jobs, money will not circulate,” she stressed, noting that low cash flow directly affects sales and stifles overall economic growth.

Madam Dweh is calling on lawmakers and relevant government authorities to take urgent action, warning that continued neglect of local businesses could worsen poverty and deepen hardship in rural Liberia.
