Bo Waterside, Wednesday, August 6, 2025 — Authorities in Grand Cape Mount County have made a significant breakthrough in a theft case reported to the Bo Waterside Police Station on August 4, 2025, with the arrest of 19-year-old suspect Varney Fahnbulleh.

The case was formally forwarded to the court by Region 2 Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Angeline W. Gibson, following a thorough investigation by officers of the Bo Waterside Police Station.

According to reports, the victim, 62-year-old Annie Banto, stated that on the evening of August 4 at approximately 8:00 PM, Fahnbulleh entered her shop pretending to be a customer.

She explained that while she was attending to other clients, the suspect secretly entered her bedroom and stole a bag containing approximately 300,000 Liberian Dollars in mixed denominations, an iPad valued at $250 USD, two plastic containers of tobacco worth 10,000 LD, an SD card valued at $20 USD, and a black belt.

Fahnbulleh allegedly fled the scene and crossed the border into neighbouring Sierra Leone.

However, acting on intelligence from joint security forces in Bo Waterside, Liberian police were able to track and arrest him across the border.

During his arrest, authorities recovered a stolen phone and $30,000 Liberian Dollars in his possession.

In a police interview, Fahnbulleh admitted to handing the stolen bag to an unidentified friend, who also crossed into Sierra Leone. He claimed the bag was returned to him shortly before his arrest.

The suspect is currently in police custody and has been formally charged with theft. He is awaiting court proceedings.

Meanwhile, Region 2 Commissioner Gibson underscored the importance of cooperation among security agencies to address cross-border crimes. She assured the public that justice will be served.

“This incident exemplifies our ongoing efforts to combat theft and other related crimes. We remain committed to protecting the lives and properties of our citizens,” Gibson stated.
