UPPER NIMBA – Police in Nimba have arrested a 24-year-old man, Prince Williams, for illegal possession of a firearm and several live rounds of bullets.
Williams was nabbed on 16 October with a black Glock 9milimeter (G9mm) pistol, in Nimba’s commercial City, Gompa, popularly known as Ganta.
Police picked up Williams in City View Community, in the bustling city of Ganta during the early evening hours, carrying the G9 pistol along with 66 live rounds of the highly sophisticated weapon.
The Glock 9mm pistol is a popular and widely used semi-automatic handgun chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum.
A breakdown of the key features and models of a Glock 9mm includes the Glock 17 (G17). Its full-size and standard capacity is 17+1 rounds, which is reliable and accurate. The G17 is trusted by law enforcement and military personnel worldwide.
Another Glock 9mm model is the Glock 19 (G19), which is compact and reduced in size. It is ideal for concealed carry, as a backup weapon, or for everyday use. It holds 15+1 rounds.
Thirdly, the Glock 9mm also has the G43 model, which is extremely compact lightweight, and ideal for deep concealment.
During police preliminary investigation, Williams admitted to stealing the weapon from a Liberian deported from the United States, with whom he said he (Williams) had been residing for the past two weeks.
He told reporters that he had taken the weapon to Ganta for sale at the price of US$550 when he was arrested.
At the time of this report, police interrogation of Williams was ongoing, while the Liberia National Police Nimba County detachment was making frantic efforts to have the 24-year-old transferred to the capital, Monrovia for further investigation and possible court trial.
