Grand Kru, Liberia – Monday, August 11, 2025-The residents of Small Suehn Gbuken have embarked on a lowland farming initiative focused primarily on rice production and cassava cultivation.

Operating under the collective banner of “Mother Club Members,” these community-driven farmers are leveraging vital support from the Liberia National Red Cross and several partner organizations to enhance agricultural activities in the county.

The initiative aims to bolster food security and improve the livelihoods of the participating families.

With the combination of suitable lowland areas for rice and hard land farming for cassava, the project is set to make a significant impact on local production capacity.

The people of Small Suehn Gbuken Community have expressed their gratitude to the Liberia National Red Cross and its partners for their commitment to supporting local agriculture. “This assistance has been crucial for us,” said Pauline W. Koffa, Head of the member of the Mother Club.

“We are learning new farming techniques and gaining access to resources that we desperately needed.”

According to them, the support from the Red Cross includes training sessions on best farming practices, as well as the provision of seeds, tools, and fertilizers; noted that these resources are helping to equip them as farmers with the necessary skills and materials to cultivate their lands efficiently.

Despite the support from Red Cross, members of the Mother Club said they are eagerly looking forward to more support; hoping that continued assistance will further enhance their farming endeavors and ultimately lead to greater food security in Small Suehn Gbuken.

Their resilience and determination serve as a beacon of hope, showcasing the potential of community collaboration and external support in transforming local agriculture.

The effort not only aims to address immediate food production needs but also seeks to empower local women, who make up a significant portion of the Mother Club.
