In preparation for celebrations marking Liberia’s 178th Independence Day on 26 July, the River Gee detachment of the Liberia National Police (LNP) has kicked off a week-long road safety enforcement campaign aimed at enhancing traffic management and reducing accidents in Fish-Town, the county’s capital.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) assigned in River Gee County, Theophilus Toe Togba, issued a formal warning to commercial motorcyclists and vehicle operators, warning that they refrain from parking in the city’s main street.

ACP Togba noted that motorists’ constant parking of vehicles along the city’s main road has become a serious traffic problem, leading to congestion and a rise in accidents.

“The main street is not meant for parking. This practice creates unnecessary disorder and puts lives at risk,” Togba emphasized during a community engagement event.

He also called on all road users to adhere to traffic laws and support police efforts in promoting public safety.

The police have announced that they will keep a close watch on the situation and may enforce penalties against those who violate parking regulations in order to restore order and safeguard commuters in Fish-Town.

River Gee County’s capital, Fish-Town, currently lacks designated parking facilities for vehicles including motorcycles, raising concerns about where these could possibly be parked during the week of Independence Day-2025, as citizens and citizens busily attend to their normal businesses.
