Harper, Maryland County | Dec. 18, 2025 | River Gee County has emphatically announced its arrival at the 2025/26 National County Sports Meet, delivering commanding performances in both kickball and football to clinch early qualification to the quarterfinal stage from Group A.

Playing at the historic Martha Tubman Sports Stadium in Harper, River Gee County overwhelmed River Cess and host Maryland County in successive fixtures, underlining their status as one of the tournament’s most formidable contenders.

River Gee County’s kickball team launched their campaign in spectacular fashion, overpowering River Cess with four resounding home runs in their opening encounter.

The momentum continued on December 17, 2025, when they faced host Maryland County in a tightly contested showdown. A crucial lone home run proved decisive, handing River Gee another vital victory and sealing their passage to the quarterfinals with a game to spare.

The football team, fondly known as the Geepo Boys, matched the kickball squad’s brilliance with a series of eye-catching performances.

They opened their football campaign with a confident 2–0 win over River Cess before producing a thrilling display to dismantle host Maryland County 3–1 in front of a packed home crowd and their local and national leaders.

The highly anticipated clash against Maryland County lived up to expectations, delivering excitement and quality football throughout.

In the 38th minute of the first half, prolific striker Emmanuel Williams, popularly known as Lukaku, broke the deadlock with a thunderous strike from the right edge of the 18-yard box.

Shortly after the restart, midfielder Moses Kwiah, nicknamed Mozari, doubled River Gee’s advantage with a magnificent free-kick that left the Maryland goalkeeper stranded.

Maryland County responded in the 72nd minute when defender Tony Zortiah redeemed himself after missing an earlier penalty, pulling one back to reduce the deficit to 2–1.

However, River Gee County’s attacking intensity proved overwhelming. Emmanuel Williams known as Lukaku struck again late in the match to restore the two-goal cushion, sealing a convincing 3–1 victory and confirming River Gee’s dominance in Group A.

Following these results, River Gee County sits comfortably atop Group A with six points and five goals, placing them firmly in control of the group.

Grand Kru County follows with two points, while host Maryland County and River Cess remain at the bottom of the standings with just one point apiece.

The group stage action continues this weekend, with River Gee County set to face Grand Kru, while River Cess will lock horns with host Maryland County as the 2025/26 National County Sports Meet group phase nears its conclusion in Harper.

However, in Group B, Nimba County and Margibi County share the lead with four points apiece following strong early outings, while Bomi and Sinoe Counties have managed just one point each.

Group C is currently led by Grand Cape Mount with four points. They are closely followed by Grand Gedeh and defending champions Lofa County, both on three points, while host county Grand Bassa sits at the bottom with one point.

Meanwhile, Group D, sees host county Gbarpolu atop the standings with two points, as Bong and Montserrado Counties continue to search for momentum, each recording a single point so far.
