    River Gee Court Opens Term With Newly Assigned Judge

    Fish Town, River Gee County |May 14, 2026 |The 15th Judicial Circuit Court in River Gee County has officially opened its May Term under the leadership of newly assigned Judge D. Onesimus Banwon.

    Judge Banwon replaces former Circuit Judge Nancy Sammy, who served as the first female circuit judge assigned to the county.

    Court officials and residents recognized her service during the transition.

    The opening ceremony was held in line with Liberia’s judicial calendar and brought together judicial officers, lawyers, civil society representatives, and county authorities to mark the beginning of the new court term.

    According to court officials, the May Term is expected to hear eight cases, including six criminal matters and two civil cases.

    In his opening statement, Judge Banwon called on judges and court workers to uphold fairness, honesty, and professionalism in carrying out their responsibilities.

    He stressed the need for integrity and neutrality in the justice system.

    “The court must continue to play an important role in sustaining peace and unity among our people,” Judge Banwon stated during the ceremony.

    He explained that fair judgments are important to maintaining peace, stability, and national development.

    He described the judiciary as the “bedrock of every civilized nation.”

    Judge Banwon also encouraged legal professionals in River Gee County to remain committed to their work as efforts continue to improve conditions and benefits for judicial workers.

    Addressing jurors, the judge urged them to listen carefully to all sides during court proceedings to help ensure fair and balanced verdicts.

    He also praised court staff for their dedication and encouraged them to continue working diligently throughout the May Term.

    Speaking at the event, Abu Diallo, Chairman of the Civil Society Organization of River Gee County, praised judicial workers for supporting peace and justice in the county.

    County Attorney Daniel T.K. Dweh also expressed support for cooperation within the justice system, saying, “My office is open, and we are here to work together.”
