River Gee County – Superintendent Mike T. Swengbe of River Gee County was in attendance at the historic ceremony marking the reburial of slain former President Samuel K. Doe and the burial of the ex-president’s wife, former First Lady Nancy B. Doe, which jointly took place in Grand Gedeh County’s capital, Zwedru, on Friday, 27 June 2025.
Samuel K. Doe, Liberia’s 21st President, was gruesomely killed during the country’s first civil war, while his wife died recently of undisclosed natural cause.
The ceremony was also graced by President Joseph N. Boakai and several other prominent national leaders, coming together to honor the legacy of the former first couple.
The occasion, which symbolized a moment of national unity and reconciliation for Liberians including thousands that were in attendance, was also attended by Superintendent Swengbe, who used the occasion to express solidarity with the people of Grand Gedeh County, reinforcing the significance of togetherness and collective remembrance of their shared history.
He highlighted the significance of such events in showcasing Liberia’s journey and the importance of unity as the nation navigates its challenges.
The ceremony marked an important step toward national healing and demonstrated Liberia’s dedication to recognizing its historical figures while working toward a brighter and more united future.
