Monrovia, Liberia – November 2, 2024: In a decisive election held at the Liberia National Bar Association headquarters, Cllr. Sagie Kamara has been elected President of the Lofa County Bar Association. Cllr. Kamara secured 58 out of 62 votes cast over his opponent who received just four votes in the race. The overwhelming victory by Cllr. Kamara highlights the strong support and trust has built within the legal community.
Kamara, who served as Secretary General of the Lofa County Bar Association for three years, brings a track record of effective leadership and strong organizational skills. In an interview with the Rural Reporters News Network, he pledged to foster increased social engagement among members, emphasizing the importance of raising the profile of the Lofa County Bar. He remarked, “One of the reasons people overlook the significance of the Lofa Bar, one of the largest local bars is our limited social presence. I plan to change that.”
Kamara shared ambitious plans for his term, including the construction of the Bar’s office in Lofa, a move he hopes will strengthen the organization’s infrastructure. Additionally, he aims to expand the legal education program currently held in Voinjama to reach other districts, promoting accessibility and inclusivity in legal education across the county.
Kamara also voiced his commitment to supporting qualified candidates vying for positions within the Liberia National Bar Association, stating that Lofa County will prioritize competence and dedication to the profession.
Reflecting on his election, Kamara expressed gratitude: “I am overwhelmed by the support, and I am confident that together we can achieve meaningful change.”
Cllr. Lavela Walker, head of the Elections Committee, praised Kamara’s prior service as Secretary General, noting that his experience and dedication to the association were evident throughout his tenure. Walker commended the peaceful and well-organized election process, calling it a testament to the professionalism of the Lofa County Bar.
The Lofa County Bar Association operates under the Liberia National Bar Association and serves as an essential stepping stone for aspiring lawyers. After passing the Liberia National Bar exams—an annual December requirement—graduates are assigned to a local bar in their County of origin, where they gain valuable experience and mentorship on their path to full legal practice.
