Salayea District, Lofa County – In a bold demonstration of youth-driven leadership and development, Edwin Lavelah, President of the Salayea Administrative District Youth Council, has outlined significant strides made under his administration—ranging from electricity access to skills training and infrastructure renewal.
In an exclusive interview in Zorzor, Lavelah revealed that his leadership successfully secured solar panels and batteries valued at US$960.00, a donation made possible through the support of former Representative Clarence Massaquoi, now Chairperson of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), and James Papy Kwabo, Chief Executive Officer of the Alternative Youth Radio.
“We prioritized electricity because we understand how vital it is for youth productivity and community engagement,” Lavelah said, adding that the equipment has already begun impacting youth programs at the local levels.
He also disclosed that six young people from the district are currently undergoing vocational training at Camp for Peace in Salayea, acquiring skills in tailoring, weaving, and basic electricity—empowering them with practical knowledge for self-sufficiency and job creation.
In terms of infrastructure, Lavelah noted that proceeds from local workshop activities were used to renovate the Salayea District Youth Center, breathing new life into the facility that serves as a hub for youth development.
Looking ahead, he revealed that his team is actively lobbying for computers and printers to enhance administrative functions and digital access for young people in the district.
Edwin Lavelah’s leadership has become a beacon of hope and innovation, showing what youth can achieve with unity, strategic partnerships, and a strong development agenda.
