Barclayville City, Grand Kru County—Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2025— A devastating fire has ravaged the warehouse and rental home of small businessman John Nyemah in Grand Kru County, destroying goods worth millions of Liberian dollars and leaving him struggling to cope with the loss. No deaths were reported, though a mother and her baby were rescued during the blaze.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, when flames erupted late in the night, engulfing Nyemah’s gasoline warehouse and spreading rapidly through the building.

John Nyemah, recounting the terrifying moment, said he had just retired to bed after a long day of sales when he was awakened by frantic screams.

The burning inferno of John Nyemah Gasoline warehouse.

“I heard a woman, Lucy Brown, shouting ‘fire!’” Nyemah said, still visibly shaken. “I rushed to the back of the house and saw my gasoline warehouse engulfed in flames. I was in total confusion, not knowing what to do.”

The businessman revealed that he had recently stocked up on gasoline, receiving a fresh shipment shortly before the incident.

He estimates that twenty drums, valued at USD$850 each, were lost—amounting to three million and sixty thousand Liberian dollars.

Nyemah explained that he had been renting the building for his business operations and had raised concerns with the landlord about unsafe activities inside the house. He said a female tenant routinely cooked in the building, prompting him to warn the owner about the potential dangers.

“I told the landlord about the lady lighting fires in the house, and I asked her to stop,” he said. “But I don’t know if she continued.”

Now left with nothing, Nyemah says the loss has crushed years of hard work and investment.

“My everything is gone,” he added, struggling to hold back tears.

The destroyed and burned debris of the Gasoline warehouse lie in ruin.

Authorities have not yet released the official cause of the fire, but an investigation is said to be underway.

Meanwhile, community members have expressed sympathy as Nyemah begins the difficult process of rebuilding his life and livelihood.
