Telemai Town, Salayea District, Lofa County |April 14, 2026| Authorities of Telemai Public Elementary School, in collaboration with local community leaders, have broken ground for the construction of a two-bedroom staff quarter intended to benefit teachers who endure long and difficult daily commutes.

The ceremony, held recently on the school campus, brought together parents, community members, school administrators, and invited guests. It also coincided with activities marking the induction of the school’s student council.

The project is expected to directly improve the welfare and performance of teachers, particularly those traveling from distant communities such as Kpayea and Gbanway. According to the school administration, at least four teachers currently commute from outside the area, with some walking for up to two hours each day to reach the campus.

School authorities say the lack of accommodation has placed a heavy burden on teachers, often affecting punctuality and regular attendance—especially during the rainy season when road conditions worsen.

Principal Regina P. Weefar emphasized that the construction of the staff quarter will significantly reduce these challenges, providing teachers with a safer and more convenient place to stay, and ultimately enhancing teaching and learning outcomes at the school.

“This project is about supporting our teachers so they can better serve our students,” the administration noted, highlighting that improved living conditions will translate into more consistent classroom engagement.

The initiative has already begun to attract support. Mr. James Papy Kwabo Jr. has donated 15 bags of cement toward the project, while members of the local community have committed to contributing local construction materials.

Despite the initial progress, school authorities are appealing to well-meaning citizens of Lofa County and Liberians in the diaspora to provide additional assistance to ensure the timely completion of the project.

When completed, the staff quarter is expected to ease the daily struggles of teachers, strengthen their commitment, and improve the overall learning environment for students at Telemai Public Elementary School.
