Zwedru City, Grand Gedeh County-Monday, September 29, 2025-Tensions are running high in Zwedru after a group of marketers at the Zwedru Central Market raised serious allegations against the Zwedru City Corporation (ZCC) for the destruction of their market tables.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, within the market area.
Allegations against Mayor and City Police
The aggrieved marketers alleged that the destruction was carried out by the Zwedru City Police, acting on the direct orders of City Mayor Madam Retha Kai.
Speaking to reporters, the group strongly condemned the action, asserting it was an unjustified attack on their livelihoods.
Threat of Street Protest and “Strong Resistance”
In response to the incident, the marketers have announced plans to take to the streets, if the situation is not timely and adequately addressed.
They revealed that they will begin protesting today, Monday, September 29, 2025, to draw the attention of the National Government. The group further warned that if “justice is not served,” they will meet the situation with “strong resistance.”
The current situation suggests an escalating confrontation between the local marketers and the Zwedru municipal authorities, with calls for central government intervention now looming.
