Gbarnga City, Bong County II Thursday, October 23, 2025 II Residents of Gbarnga City, Bong County provincial capital have alarmed over what they see as a “Death trap of traffic lights,” if nothing is swiftly done to repair them.

The traffic lights in question were installed by Senator Johnny Kpehe in 2023 when he ran as senatorial candidate for Bong County.

However, due to the “On” and “Off” nature of the traffic lights, they have become threats to their lives the residents lamented.

According to some of the residents who participated in a phone in radio program on Monday, October 21, 2025, they stressed the importance of traffic lights especially the one situated at the Far East Junction. This Far East Junction traffic light continues to save citizens’ lives.

They were quick to however mention that the traffic lights have all developed faults and as a result, crossing the streets cum junctions where they are erected, have become life threatening.

It can be recalled that the traffic lights in question were parts of campaign gifts from then Senatorial candidate Johnny K. Kpehe during the 2023 elections and according to him, the agreement between he and the city authority was such that he would manage the traffic lights for the period of one year; following that city government was going to take over the management and administration of the traffic lights.

Even though the Senator is yet to provide evidence about the alleged agreement between he and the former county leadership had, then headed by Superintendent Esther Yamah Walker during the past regime.

The traffic lights currently in disrepair are quite essential for the safe and free movement of traffic within the city of Gbarnga and its surroundings, as a result; many residents are still calling on Senator Kpehe to kindly reconsider and takeover the management of traffic lights for the good of the people of Bong County; especially, residents of Gbarnga City.
