Voinjama, Lofa County-The Voinjama District Farmers’ Cooperative Building (VDFC) is seen lying in ruins since a violent storm hit it early March 2025.

The VDFC is located on the Lawalazu road, central Voinjama. The building was hit by a violent storm disaster in early March 2025. Since then, the important agriculture infrastructure has been deserted with neighbors describing the wreckages as death trap.

Some concerned citizens who spoke to the Liberia Rural Reporters Network lamented that children within the neighborhood could get hurt by the wrecks from the building during their routine play.

“Since the heavy storm damaged this big Voinjama district Farmers’ cooperative building, nobody is able to even make some intervention, and for we the farmers, we don’t have money to renovate this big building”, Krubo Mulbah said.

Following the March 2025 natural disaster that affected several private homes including public schools, and public buildings, the disaster management committee of Lofa said some interventions were made to support affected private homes. Shadrick Fallah, the Coordinator of the Disaster Management Committee of Lofa said the intervention efforts were not enough to attend to the many storm victims including the VDFC.

The leadership of the Voinjama District Farmers’ Cooperative is calling on well-meaning Liberians to help renovate the cooperative’s building.

Over the years, the Voinjama District Farmers’ Cooperative has witnessed significant transformation due to the World Bank’s initiatives aimed at helping farmers transition from Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) to cooperative status.

The objective of farmer cooperatives like Voinjama is to empower members economically and socially by enhancing market access, providing members with access to broader markets and improving their negotiating power.

The support also includes capacity building initiatives to improve members’ skills and knowledge in areas like agricultural practices, financial management, and entrepreneurship as well as sustainable development and promoting eco-friendly practices and community development projects that enhance society’s overall well-being.
