Voinjama District Youth Leadership Harvest Rice Farm, As They Call for Storage Facility Support

Voinjama city, Lofa County –Sunday, November 9, 2025–The Voinjama District youths Leadership in Lofa County on Saturday November 8, 2025 started to reap what they  planted.

The youth leadership comprising both men and women, gathered in their numbers in Kugbemai Town to harvest their rice farm for the first time in the town.

According to the District’s Youth leader Prince Dorbor, the Upland rice farm project is a pilot project for young people in the district.

Youth Chairman Prince Dorbor noted that this year pilot project for and owned by the young people, planted about 9 tin of rice on the upland in Kugbemai, but also a huge lowland rice project in Vezala town, which will be harvested very soon.

He said produce from this year farm will be used to prepare for the next farming season.

“This is just a pilot project; meaning that we are just trying something so by next year, we will make a bigger rice upland and lowland farms to empower ourselves through agriculture sector.

“Right now, all we need is additional storage facility to keep our produce from the farm,” youth leader Dorbor remarked.

The Voinjama District youths according to Prince Dorbor are now changing their minds and attitude toward agriculture; something he termed positive and rewarding.

“As youth of the district, we are not only focusing on rice farm, but also we will be engaging in other types of agricultural activities in our district such as planting peanuts, beans and corns,” Prince Dorbor added.

About eighty young man and women on Saturday, November 8, 2025 gathered on the farm with enthusiasm and seriousness characterized with fun and jokes to harvest their rice farm.

This is the first time in more than 10 years, the youths gathered together and venture into such developmental activity in Voinjama District.

The Voinjama District youths Leadership was inducted into office a year ago by Liberia’s Internal Affairs Minister, Francis Sakila Nyumalin at which time he donated the amount of LD$500,000 to the youths as initial support towards their agricultural activities in the district.

It was from the said LD$500,000 that the “Youth farm project” started in Kugbemai Town’s upland and Vezala Town, lowland respectively.
