Kolahun district, Wulukoha Clan |Feb. 12, 2026|Group of Young men in Hilgbelahun Town, Kolahun district are involved into self-help initiative intended to develop their town and community.

The young people grouped themselves for the purpose of doing weekly contracts to empower themselves in order to be ready and prepared to act whenever the need arises.

According to them, such situation could be characterized as moments of happiness (graduation/wedding) or sadness (death/accident); such situation, they promise never to escape their input as youth of the town henceforth.

Every Saturday of the week, more than thirty five youths go on a particular farm or garden to work for money; proceeds which are being saved by the youths in realization of their collective goal as youths. This is being done towards our self-development as youths for the development our town and the larger community.

“We grouped ourselves together every Saturday of the week to do town work as young people and money we get from such work is kept for development of the youths in the town; and sometime, we celebrate holidays, Christmas and other occasions in Hilgbelahun Town,”  Joseph Salay , a member of the youth group said.

Accordingly, all youths in Hilgbelahun are compelled to participate in the youth work every Saturday of the week.

“If you are a youth in Hilgbelahun Town, and you don’t attend the general youth work every Saturday of the week, the youth leadership fines you in the tune of LD $500 and this money goes into our account,” Amadou Salay a senior member of the Hilgbelahun youth.

According to the youth leadership in Hilgbelahun Town, as a result of their weekly contracts, they are saving money for future activities in the town.

Meanwhile, the young people of the town are appealing to the Ministry of Public works and road contractors to extend the road rehabilitation to Hilgbelahun Town.

Moreover, “We as citizens, are doing everything possible to also invest in agriculture, gardening and other business activities”.

“Our town and other surrounding areas don’t have good road, so we want our government to extend the road rehabilitation program in Hilgbelahun Town so that we too can easily transport our goods to the market” Edwin Salay, one of the youths pleaded with government.

Hilgbelahun Town is the last town between Wulukoha Clan Kolahun district and the Tahamba clan in district #3 Lofa County.
