Monrovia, Liberia II Tuesday, October 21, 2025 II The Ministry of Public Works, in partnership with the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) and other stakeholders, is overseeing the Urban Resilience Project in central Monrovia, Brewerville, and Paynesville.

This large-scale infrastructure initiative involves a major pipeline upgrade, requiring precise coordination to prevent disruption to underground fiber-optic networks that form the backbone of the country’s broadband connectivity.

In an LTA statement at the weekend, the fiber-optic cables, deployed by Orange Liberia and CSquared, provide high-speed internet services to schools, hospitals, businesses, government institutions, and homes across the nation.

These cables leverage ACE Cable capacity, distributed through underground terrestrial ducts, enabling national and cross-border connectivity. This infrastructure is crucial for Liberia’s digital inclusion and economic growth.

To ensure the continuity of internet services, LTA engineers are working closely with Urban Resilience Project engineers to protect the fiber-optic pathways during the pipeline upgrade. This collaboration, the statement said is essential to prevent damage to the cables, which could disrupt internet services and hinder the country’s economic and social development.

The Urban Resilience Project is part of a broader effort to improve urban planning, flood management, and climate resilience in Liberia’s major cities.

Supported by the World Bank, the project aims to benefit approximately 200,000 people by providing protection against flooding and improving access to basic services and infrastructure.

The project’s success relies on the collaboration of various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Public Works, LTA, Orange Liberia, CSquared, and other government agencies.

By working together, these partners can ensure that Liberia’s digital infrastructure is protected and that the country’s urban development is sustainable and resilient.

As the project progresses it is essential to recognize the importance of protecting Liberia’s digital backbone. By doing so, we can ensure that the country’s economic and social development is supported by reliable and high-speed internet services, ultimately improving the lives of Liberians.

On the project team, the Ministry of Public is overseeing the Urban Resilience Project while the Liberia Telecommunications Authority is protecting fiber-optic infrastructure. Meanwhile, Orange Liberia is   investing in fiber-optic infrastructure, and CSquared is building and maintaining underground terrestrial ducts as World Bank is providing financial support for the Urban Resilience Project

By joining forces, these partners can create a more resilient and connected Liberia, where everyone can benefit from the opportunities offered by digital technologies.
