River Gee County-Friday, Nov. 28, 2025-Preparations for the 2025/26 National County Sports Meet are intensifying as River Gee and neighboring Grand Gedeh County brace for a highly anticipated return leg on November 29, 2025, at the Fish-Town Sports Stadium.

The upcoming match marks the second encounter between the two sides in their ongoing pre-tournament assessment series.

Sports officials say the rematch aims to evaluate team cohesion, scrutinize tactical weaknesses, and improve overall performance before Liberia’s premier inter-county tournament officially begins.

Local sports authorities in River Gee are optimistic that playing on home soil will energize the squad and attract a sizeable, spirited crowd.

Organizers add that the fixture will provide a crucial proving ground for newly recruited players and recently implemented coaching strategies intended to boost the county’s competitiveness in football.

Grand Gedeh’s delegation is expected in Fish-Town at least a day ahead of kickoff. The county’s technical staff describes the match as an important opportunity to “fine-tune tactics and build team chemistry,” following the teams’ first meeting earlier this month with a 1–1 draw at the Albert T. White Sports Stadium in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.

Residents across both counties are eagerly anticipating a lively and hard-fought contest, with the November 29 showdown viewed as a key indicator of each team’s readiness for the national tournament.

Despite their shared cultural and geographic bonds, River Gee and Grand Gedeh will not meet in the group stage of this year’s competition. Grand Gedeh has been placed in Group C, joining host Grand Bassa, Lofa, and Grand Cape Mount. River Gee, meanwhile, will compete in Group A, alongside host and neighbor Maryland County, as well as Grand Kru and River Cess.

According to reports, the 2025/26 National County Sports Meet is set to officially open on December 14, 2025, with Bong County serving as the principal host.

The National County Sports Meet, Liberia’s largest annual sporting festival, brings together athletes from all 15 counties to compete in football, kickball, athletics, and other events.

The upcoming edition is expected to feature increased participation and elevated competition levels as counties intensify their preparations.
