Bopolu City, Gbarpolu County | January 21, 2026 | A 53-year-old man, Saah Boakai, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping his own 14-year-old daughter in Gbarpolu County.

‎The verdict was handed down by Presiding Judge Cllr. Zuballah A. Kizeku on January 19, 2026, after a trial jury found Boakai guilty of statutory rape.

‎According to the indictment, Boakai, a resident of Bopolu City, forcibly had sexual intercourse with his daughter in December 2024.

‎The victim reported the incident to her mother, leading to Boakai’s arrest and indictment on February 25, 2025.

‎During the trial in the presence of Gbarpolu County Attorney Cllr Arthur Washington, Sr. Trial Jury and Defendant Representative Cllr. Edward Dahn, the prosecution presented evidence from the victim and three other witnesses, while Boakai testified in his own defense, initially denying the allegations.

‎However, he later admitted to the commission of the act but thereafter, immediately begged for mercy and forgiveness during investigation.

‎The judge ruled that the guilty verdict was justified, citing Section 14.70 of the Penal Code of Liberia.

‎Boakai will serve his sentence at the Zwedru Correction Palace, starting from his indictment date, February 25, 2025, until February 25, 2040.

‎Meanwhile, Gbarpolu County Attorney Cllr. Arthur Washington described the verdict as a victory against rape; sending a strong message to parents to protect their children.

‎Besides, local residents commended the court for the speedy trial, and called on the justice system to fast track other rape cases on docket.

‎This ruling is part of the ongoing fight against rape not just in Gbarpolu but in Liberia, where cases of sexual violence are on the rise.
