Liberia’s Ministry of Defense Unveils Ambitious Strategic Plan for 2026-2030

Monrovia, Liberia | January 22, 2026| The Ministry of National Defense (MoD) has launched its Strategic Plan for 2026-2030, reaffirming Liberia’s commitment to national security, institutional reform, and inclusive development.

The plan, themed “Securing Peace, Building Resilience, Advancing Inclusive Development,” outlines key priorities, including improved defense readiness, disaster response, peacekeeping, and civil-military relations.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of National Defense, Hon. Geraldine J. George, emphasized the plan’s alignment with national development priorities and regional and international security frameworks.

The five-year framework focuses on institutional governance, operational readiness, human capital development, civil-military relations, and strategic partnerships.

For his part, Retired Major General Daniel Dee Ziankahn, Military Advisor to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, commended the MoD and Armed Forces of Liberia for their efforts in promoting national security and stability.

He stressed the need for collaboration and effective coordination among security institutions to ensure successful implementation.

Development partners, including UNDP, AU/ECOWAS, and the United States Embassy attended the program and praised the MoD for its inclusive planning process and reaffirmed their support for Liberia’s defense reform agenda.

The Strategic Plan provides a comprehensive framework for securing peace, strengthening national resilience, and promoting inclusive development, positioning Liberia as a responsible contributor to regional and international security.

The launch event, attended by senior government officials, defense partners, and diplomats, highlighted the importance of collaboration and coordination among security institutions to ensure successful implementation.
