Medina Town, Zorzor District, Lofa County |March 7, 2026|Residents of Medina Town in Zorzor Administrative District are appealing to the District Education Office for urgent intervention as their only school continues to operate with just one volunteer teacher.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Town Chief of Medina, Varlee Jabateh, said the situation is seriously affecting the education of children in the town.
According to Chief Jabateh, the school runs from ABC level to Grade Six, but the entire institution is currently being managed by only one volunteer teacher.
He explained that whenever the lone teacher is absent due to other responsibilities, classes are automatically disrupted, leaving many students without lessons for the day.
Chief Jabateh described the situation as challenging and called on the Zorzor District Education Officer to urgently assign additional qualified teachers to the school.
He said the presence of more teachers would significantly improve the quality of education and help address the difficulties children in Medina Town face in accessing proper learning opportunities.
Meanwhile, the town chief also raised concerns about the poor road condition leading to the community. He is calling on the Government of Liberia to help rehabilitate the road to make transportation easier for residents and visitors.
In addition, Chief Jabateh highlighted the town’s strong involvement in agriculture. He is appealing to the Ministry of Agriculture to provide farmers with more agricultural seedlings, including cocoa, coffee, and other tree crops, to help boost farming activities in the area.
He believes that with government support in both education, road infrastructure, and agriculture, Medina Town can experience meaningful development and improved livelihoods for its residents.
