Gbarnga City, Bong County |April 9, 2026 | A violent rainstorm has damaged the transmission tower of Premium FM 98.1/TV Gbarnga, forcing the station to suspend normal broadcasting operations, management has announced.
According to a statement issued by the station on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the storm struck the facility’s official transmission tower, causing significant structural destruction and interrupting radio and television services.
Despite the severity of the storm, no injuries or damage to nearby properties happened. The station’s main facilities and the nearby Sumo Moye Memorial Institute remain unaffected by the unfortunate incident.
Management described the disruption as not only unfortunate but assured that technicians are currently assessing the extent of the damage.
Efforts are underway to restore transmission as soon as possible, although no timeline has been provided for the resumption of regular programming.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding and continued support,” the statement read.
The temporary shutdown has left listeners and viewers in Gbarnga and surrounding communities without access to one of the area’s key local broadcasters, known for its quality news, educational programming, entertainment and community announcements among others.
Station officials said updates will be provided as restoration work progresses.
In a related development, another radio station in Bong County, Voice of Bong 103.5MHz also suffered storm-related damage after its transmission tower reportedly collapsed onto a nearby resident’s house during the heavy downpour.
Eyewitnesses said heavy rainfall and strong winds damage parts of the building’s roof as a result of which the station’s 200ft tower collapsed onto the structure leaving residents in shock.
Up to press time, the extent of the infrastructural damage remains unclear, while no casualty was recorded.
The incident is expected to affect the station’s operations, though officials have yet to issue a formal statement to that effect.
The accident occurred during the night of April 8, 2026, leaving two of the major radio stations and widely listen to, off the air due to the massive destruction caused by the storm thus affecting the transmission towers.
Residents of the County have expressed sadness regarding the misfortune and termed the situation as total embarrassment and serious loss.
Meanwhile, some members of the public have joined the station management in calling on the general public, government officials and eminent citizens including the business community to rally round the affected stations as a means of remedying the present situation.
