Greenville City, Sinoe County |May 27, 2026 |The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has continued its nationwide environmental compliance monitoring exercise with inspections in Greenville, Sinoe County.
During Day IX of the exercise, the EPA monitoring team visited the ongoing coastal revetment project aimed at reducing shoreline erosion and protecting communities affected by rising sea levels and coastal damage.
The Government of Liberia officially launched the Sinoe County Coastal Defense Project in May 2025 as part of efforts to address the growing threat of sea erosion in Greenville City.
EPA officials assessed environmental safety and compliance measures linked to the project to ensure that construction activities are being carried out responsibly and according to environmental standards.
The coastal revetment project is expected to help protect homes, businesses, roads, and other important community infrastructure from further erosion damage.
Following the project inspection, the EPA team also visited several industrial facilities in and around Greenville to monitor their compliance with environmental regulations.
According to the EPA, the inspections focused on identifying environmental risks and ensuring that companies are operating in ways that protect public health and the environment.
Officials said the monitoring exercise forms part of a broader national effort to strengthen environmental stewardship and encourage sustainable development across Liberia.
Residents and environmental stakeholders believe projects such as the coastal defense initiative are important for protecting vulnerable communities and supporting long-term development in coastal areas.
The EPA says it remains committed to ensuring that development activities across the country are implemented in environmentally safe and sustainable ways for the benefit of present and future generations.
