Bopolu City, Gbarpolu-The Liberia Water and Sewer Cooperation (LWSC), on December 5, 2024, announced the establishment and supply of pipe borne water to residents of Bopolu City, marking a significant milestone since the city’s inception.
In a recent disclosure on local radio in the County, Mr. Mo Ali, Managing Director of the LWSC, outlined that this initiative aims to enhance access to clean water, noting that the project serves as a vital resource for the community’s livelihood.
According to Mr. Ali, the project, which is included in the 2024 national budget, has a total cost of USD 250,000. This water supply project will benefit governmental buildings and residents of Bopolu City, with plans for future expansion to surrounding communities.
Mr. Ali emphasized the importance of support from county authorities, urging them to allocate funds from the county development budget to facilitate the project’s growth.
Commencing in November 2024, the initiative includes drilling a 700-foot deep well, constructing a water treatment plant, installing pipelines, and building water kiosks among other essential facilities.
While the water supply will not be free, residents will pay a minimal fee to cover maintenance costs for the treatment plant and administrative expenses.
Mr. Ali said that the LWSC also has ambitious plans to ensure that all major cities in Liberia with populations of 5,000 and above will have access to clean and safe drinking water by the end of 2028.
Since its establishment in 1973, the Liberia Water and Sewer Cooperation has been dedicated to providing water supply and sanitation services throughout Liberia, constructing and managing water and sewage facilities to ensure safe water distribution for public, domestic, and industrial use.
Meanwhile, residents of Bopolu City have warmly welcomed this initiative, recognizing its importance for health and community development. They have expressed their readiness to embrace this change because they believe that Water is the driving force of all nature.
