Lower Nimba-January 18, 2025-Full electricity has been restored at the government second largest hospital in northern Liberia, after multiple fire disasters which destroyed the hospital’s transformer. The arrival of the two new transformers brings a big relief to the referral hospital, the management has said.

The procurement of the transformers was made possible through the efforts of the Ministry of Health and its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Victor Kaizer.

Nurses and administrative staffs were seen early Saturday morning of January 18, 2025 in jubilant mood, singing in the name of their CEO, Dr. Victor Kaizer when the two 2000kva and 1500kva transformers were delivered to the hospital

“For so long we have been in darkness, thank you Dr. Kaizer, truly you are a humanitarian and heaven sent for JFD”, the nurses and administrative staff were heard showering praises on their boss.

On February 19, 2023, former president George Weah dedicated a 1500kva transformer for the Jackson F. Doe Regional and Referral Hospital to ensure stable electricity supply, but gutted by fire multiple times in the middle of 2024.

Since that time, there has been no stable electricity at the government second biggest health facility due the high cost of fuel, compelling the management to schedule power supply from 7:00pm – 6:00am and 11:00am-1:00pm daily.

It is estimated that electricity cost at the Jackson F. Doe Regional and Referral hospital is put at US$800 when using generator. But the arrival of the two transformers is expected to reduce the cost and contributes to power stability of the second largest public health facility in the country.

According to official sources, the Government of Liberia provides 95 percent of the hospital funding including other supports. The JFD hospital serves the entire Southeastern Liberia and patients from Ivory Coast and Guinea.
