River Gee County | May 9, 2026 | Local authorities of River Gee County have officially announced the soon commencement of the long-awaited reconstruction of the Tienpo Nyonken bridge, located in the Nanee administrative area of Tienpo statutory district.
According to a release from the office of the River Gee County Superintendent, the project will involve the construction of a temporary wooden bridge expected to be completed within three weeks period.
The reconstruction work is being undertaken by Homeland Liberia Limited, a Liberian-owned construction company contracted to restore the damaged crossing point.
The Tienpo Nyonken Bridge remains one of the most important transportation links in southeastern Liberia, connecting Tienpo Statutory district and entry to Sinoe and Grand Kru counties, facilitating a movement of people, goods, and essential services across the region.

County authorities said the reconstruction project is aimed at easing the transportation hardships residents have endured since the bridge collapsed as a result of severe flooding and unfavorable weather conditions.
The destruction of the bridge has disrupted commercial activities, limited access to healthcare facilities, local markets, and created serious mobility challenges for surrounding communities.
Officials noted that the bridge’s collapse affected farmers, traders, students, and commuters who rely heavily on the route for daily economic and social activities.
Many residents were forced to seek alternative and often unsafe routes to neighboring communities following the disaster.
The latest development follows an announcement made nearly a year ago by River Gee County Superintendent Mike Swengbe, that the Government of Liberia had allocated approximately US$60,000 for the reconstruction of the Tienpo Nyonken Bridge.

However, in addition to the work support, earlier this year, the Chief Executive Director of the KunCares Foundation, of Cllr. Kunkunyon Teh, also demonstrated a support for the initiative by donating US$15,000 toward the temporary reconstruction effort.
The original Tienpo Nyonken bridge was constructed in 2017 by Alexander Poure, Representative of River Gee County electoral District one, and has since served as a vital route for economic and social activities in the region.
However, residents and local business owners have welcomed the announcement, expressing optimism that the reconstruction will restore normal transportation, strengthen local trade, and improve connectivity between River Gee and neighboring counties once the project is completed.
