Monrovia, Liberia-Friday, May 02,2025- Mr. Mohamed Youssef, a Judicial Affairs Officer at the United Nations Justice and Corrections Standing Capacity in New York, has concluded his month-long engagement with the Office for the Establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court for Liberia (OWECC-L).

Mr. Youssef arrived in Liberia as one of the in-person facilitators for the recent high-level technical workshop on transitional justice, held under the auspices of the United Nations in collaboration with OWECC-L.

Following the workshop, his stay in Liberia was extended to allow for continued collaboration with OWECC-L. During this time, he was seconded to the office of the Executive Director, Dr. Cllr. Jallah A. Barbu.

“The one-month engagement and interaction with Mohamed has been so rewarding to our mandate,” said Dr. Barbu. “The engagement was characterized by mutual respect and served as a valuable learning experience for both of us.”

In appreciation of his service, Mr. Youssef was ceremoniously gowned and encouraged to continue offering his expertise in Liberia’s ongoing transitional justice efforts.

In his response, Mr. Youssef urged Dr. Barbu and his team to maintain the momentum he witnessed during his assignment with OWECC-L. He described his time there as enriching, adding that the experience had significantly deepened his understanding of transitional justice—something he believes will benefit his career moving forward.
