Barclayville City, Grand Kru County— Sunday, May 11, 2025-The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees at the Grand Kru Technical College, Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley, has stressed the importance of academic excellence and discipline as pivotal elements for the institution’s growth and reputation.
Speaking briefly following the induction ceremony of the college new President, Prof. Kobbah-Boley called upon the female students to view her as a role model and encouraged them to take full advantage of the resources and opportunities provided by the college. “It is imperative that you strive for excellence and diligence in your studies,” she declared. “Education is a powerful tool that can pave the way for your future. Don’t allow noise, distractions, and societal pressures to hinder your path to success.”
Prof. Weade Kobbah-Boley who served as Director General at the Liberia Broadcasting System and her time as Vice Chairperson for the Council of States during Liberia’s transitional government, urged young people especially students and faculty to foster a culture of quiet determination and accountability.
The Grand Kru Technical College Chairperson of the Board of Trustees commitment to uplift the Grand Kru Technical College aligns with her current role as the Vice President for Institutional Development and Planning at the University of Liberia.
She iterated the importance of creating an educational environment that is conducive to learning, urging faculty members to instill discipline in students and uphold the values that underpin academic excellence and achievement.
“Institutions thrive when there is a shared commitment to discipline and respect for academic standards,” she noted. “We will lead without noise; Let us work together to cultivate an atmosphere that embodies these principles.”
The Chairperson’s remarks resonated strongly with many students, especially the young women at the college who look to her for guidance and inspiration. She highlighted the transformative power of education, particularly for women in Liberia, and encouraged them to pursue their studies with vigor; reminding them that they have the potential to become leaders in their respective fields.
Prof. Kobbah-Boley concluded by reinforcing the idea that academic excellence should be the foremost goal of every student at the Grand Kru Technical College. “Let’s move forward without noise—we should let our achievements speak for themselves,” she asserted; leaving the audience with a renewed sense of purpose and determination.

For his part, Grand Kru County Senator Numene T.H. Bartekwa has challenged the newly inducted President of the local college, Professor Sarwee Joe Wia Faeflen, to intensify efforts toward elevating the institution to university status as swiftly as possible.
Senator Bartekwa made these remarks during a ceremonial introduction of Professor Faeflen, highlighting the crucial role of higher education in the region’s development.
The Grand Kru County lawmaker emphasized that the elevation of the college would not only benefit the students but also contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of Grand Kru County. “As we embrace this new leadership, I implore President Faeflen to set ambitious goals for our college. Our students deserve the best education possible, and achieving university status is a significant step forward,” he stated passionately.
Senator Bartekwa, who has been a long-time advocate for the College, reiterated the commitment of the Grand Kru legislative caucus to support the college’s new leadership, expressed optimism that with collaborative efforts among faculty, local government, and community stakeholders, the objective of attaining university status could be realized within a reasonable timeframe.
Senator Bartekwa’s challenge to Professor Faeflen reflects a growing recognition of the importance of educational institutions in fostering national development; noted that with coordinated efforts and a shared vision for the future, the dream of transforming the college into a university could soon become a reality for the people of Grand Kru County.
