Zorzor, Lofa County – Tuesday, May 13, 2025-The Mayor of Zorzor City, Yanquoi Dolo, is calling on the Government of Liberia to provide machinery and support to help improve several major road corridors in the city, including the critical Curran Hospital Road.

In an interview with journalists in Zorzor, Mayor Dolo emphasized that improving the road leading to Curran Hospital has been a top priority for his administration. He explained that poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season, pose serious threats to residents and emergency medical services.

“The Curran Hospital Road retains too much water, and when ambulances are rushing with patients, people doing business in the middle of the road can cause delays and danger,” Mayor Dolo said.

Drainage opening ongoing showcasing the urgent need for Central and local authorities to intervene.

He noted that efforts have already been made to relocate street vendors from the main road to its edges, allowing better access for emergency vehicles. However, a few individuals have refused to move and may face legal action.

According to Mayor Dolo, the city has begun making efforts on its own to address the water flow problems and improve road access. He explained that the lack of machines has forced them to use local resources to maintain the roads.

“The hospital is our first priority because when someone is sick, that’s where they are rushed. That road must be in good condition,” he added.

Other roads in need of urgent attention include the Pewee Howard Hill Road, the George Weah Bypass, and the Yeala Road. The mayor believes that upgrading these intra-city roads will significantly boost the safety, health, and economy of Zorzor.

“Development in rural areas should not be overlooked,” Mayor Dolo emphasized. “We are part of the national cake, and the government must see the need to send machines to help us fix our roads—it is everybody’s business.”

He concluded by urging national leaders to prioritize rural infrastructure development, stressing that better roads can lead to improved healthcare delivery, economic growth, and overall well-being for citizens in remote areas.
