Zorzor City, Lofa County |January 26, 2026| The Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) in Zorzor City has received a major boost to its agricultural empowerment drive following a timely intervention from Hon. Jesse Korboi, a prominent son of Fissebu Town in Zorzor District, Lofa County.

    Hon. Jesse Korboi,Son of Fissebu,Zorzor District,Lofa County.

Hon. Korboi’s support comes in response to three development-oriented project proposals submitted by the YMCA, including a high school quizzing competition, an inter-school league tournament, and a cassava farming project. After careful consideration, Hon. Korboi elected to support the cassava farm initiative, citing its long-term benefits for food production, youth engagement, and community sustainability.

Through his team, headed by Mr. David B. Lavela, Hon. Korboi donated ten (10) cutlasses, ten (10) hoes, and ten (10) files to the YMCA. The agricultural tools, valued at Twenty-Two Thousand Three Hundred Liberian Dollars (LD 22,300), including transportation costs, are intended to support the successful establishment and maintenance of the cassava farm.

The donation is expected to significantly enhance the YMCA’s capacity to promote practical skills training, food security, and self-reliance among young people in Zorzor District. The cassava project will not only provide food for members but also serve as a source of income to support other YMCA programs and activities.

Receiving the items on behalf of the organization, YMCA Zorzor Branch Coordinator Mr. Eric A. S. Wesseh, alongside Project Supervisor Mr. Joseph Idowu A. Odeyemi, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Korboi for what they described as a “timely and impactful intervention.” They emphasized that the support will help the YMCA empower youths through agriculture while fostering discipline, teamwork, and responsibility.

The YMCA leadership further pledged to work closely with Hon. Korboi’s team to ensure the success of the project and to continue promoting peace, development, and youth participation in community-building initiatives.

The YMCA Zorzor Branch has long been involved in youth-focused programs aimed at education, sports, leadership development, and livelihood empowerment. With the launch of the cassava farm project, the organization hopes to expand its contribution to local development and serve as a model for community-driven agricultural initiatives in Lofa County.

The YMCA has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening partnerships with well-meaning citizens and stakeholders like Hon. Jesse Korboi to improve the lives of young people and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development in Zorzor District.
