    Across Lofa County, Internal Affairs Minister Appoints Several Chiefs and Inducts them into offices

    Lofa County, Voinjama City-December 5, 2024- Liberia Internal Affairs Minister Hon.Francis S. Nyumalin has appointed several chiefs and inducted them into offices in Lofa County.

    According to the Local Government Act of 2018, the following positions should be elected in the various local government units: Paramount Chief, Clan Chief, and General Town Chief.

    Superintendent, County Administrative Officer, County Finance Officer, County Development Officer, City Mayor, and Commissioner (Townships and Boroughs) shall be appointed by the President with the consent of the Senate.

     However, due to funding consideration and other embedded challenges, national government to-date is yet to put into effect the conduct of local elections for the positions mentioned supra as regards the conduct of elections for local government officials.

    That said, Liberia Internal Affairs Minister and his delegation on Tuesday December 3, 2024 entered Lofa on a County tour to appoint and subsequently induct into offices several chiefs in all districts of the county.

    The appointment of chiefs started in Zorzor, Quardu Gboni, Voinjama, and Kolahun Districts where Paramount chiefs, Clan Chiefs, Sectional chiefs and other local officials were appointed by the Internal Affairs Minister Hon. Nyumalin.

    Moreover, each district visited, there were townhall discussions accompanied by pomp and pageantry. Everywhere the Minister and delegation went, he encouraged the citizens to hold together and be their brothers’ keepers at all times.

    According to him, those appointed will serve until 2026 before elections can be held to satisfy the local government act.

    The minister then admonished all those appointed to diligently execute their respective roles and functions accordingly, adding that any attempt to default or fail to perform ,such officials will be investigated and if found guilty, penalized followed by dismissal.
