Zorzor, Lofa County, January 16, 2025-Alternative Youth Radio (AYR) has declined the donation of a motorcycle by Lofa County Senator, Momo Cyrus. The management of AYR said it declined the donation because it conflicts with its institution policy on donation.

“Our policy clearly prohibits the branding or personalization of donated items with the names of individual donors. Instead, AYR maintains transparency by sharing public stories of appreciation and acceptance to honor such contributions”, a statement of rejection from AYR said.

AYR noted that Senator Cyrus’s request to brand the motorcycle with his name is in direct conflict with this long-standing policy. “As a result, and with great regret, we are unable to accept this donation under these conditions”, the AYR’s statement further read, adding, this decision does not diminish the significance of Senator Cyrus’s generosity but reflects AYR’s unbending commitment to upholding the integrity and neutrality of our operations”.

Since its establishment in 2016, AYR says it has operated under clearly defined policies regarding donations, and is not willing to compromise such value amid the goodwill from Senator Cyrus.

“While we have graciously received various forms of support, including equipment and materials, our policy clearly prohibits the branding or personalization of donated items with the names of individual donors. Instead, AYR maintains transparency by sharing public stories of appreciation and acceptance to honor such contributions”, the AYR statement emphasized.

However, the Alternative Youth Radio, acknowledging  the effort of the donation, did not hesitate to express its deepest gratitude to Senator Momo Cyrus for his generous intention to donate a brand-new motorcycle to support the station’s operations.

The station termed the donation as an act of goodwill from Senator Cyrus and his commitment to empowering communities and enhancing local media, which the AYR said it values and recognizes wholeheartedly.

“We take this opportunity to thank Senator Cyrus and all those who initiated this thoughtful gesture. While we cannot accept the donation at this time, we remain open to future collaborations that align with AYR’s policies and mission to empower rural communities through inclusive media, education, and development”.
