MONROVIA, LIBERIA |January 8, 2026| In a landmark initiative, Liberia has taken a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in education.
A recent ceremony marked the distribution of internet kits to 157 public senior high schools across the country, bringing the power of the internet to thousands of students.
The initiative according to the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), aims to enhance access to quality education, improve learning outcomes, and equip students with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age.
“The internet kits will enable students and teachers to access a wealth of educational resources, collaborate with peers, and stay connected with the global community” the LTA said in documentary video footage posted Wednesday with one of Liberia’s popular comedian Paul Flomo providing public awareness about the process.
This move is expected to have a profound impact on the country’s education sector, particularly in rural areas where access to technology and internet connectivity has been limited.
The program, LTA said is a testament to the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to drive development and improve the lives of its citizens.
The distribution of internet kits is just the beginning of a broader effort to transform the country’s education system, as plans are underway to expand internet access to more schools, provide training for teachers, and develop digital content that is relevant to the Liberian education sector.
From an ICT standpoint, this move bridges the digital divide, providing students with access to a vast array of educational resources, online courses, and global connectivity. It also opens up new avenues for remote learning, enabling students to access quality education beyond the confines of their classrooms.
The initiative underscores the importance of digital literacy in today’s interconnected world, by integrating technology into education, Liberia is equipping its youth with the skills needed to compete in the global economy and participate in the digital age.
This development also highlights the potential for public-private partnerships in driving digital transformation with collaborative efforts between government, private sector, and development partners aims to accelerate the rollout of digital infrastructure and services, benefiting more schools and communities.
Under the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr, the LTA is making significant strides in expanding its service coverage across the country.
