Lower Lofa –November 5, 2025 –Sons and daughters of Lower Hassala Clan in the Gbandi Chiefdom have embarked on a manual road construction in order to possibly connect Betersu in Liberia with Gbandilo in the sisterly Republic of Sierra Leone.
According to youths, elders and women in that area, they find it difficult to transport their products to Voinjama and other places in Liberia because of the bad road condition.
Therefore they have decided to construct their own roads with their bare hands to connect with Sierra Leone where they can easily carry their goods for transaction purposes.
Citizens in the Hassala Clan and adjacent towns are using locally made cutlasses, diggers, shovel, and power saws to construct execute the road building work.
According to the Paramount chief in the Gbandi Chiefdom Salia Dunor, all materials they are using for the manual road construction were provided by the citizens themselves in the area.
The citizens are meanwhile calling on business people in the lower Lofa belts,
politicians, government officials and other well-meaning citizens in the diaspora to help construct their alternative roads as they await government intervention; which, according to them is taking long to come by.
When completed, the road will give easy access to motorbikes and small vehicles to cross into neighboring Sierra Leone for smooth business transactions.
Meanwhile, a son of the Gbandi Chiefdom Dr. Varfoly M. Turay has made a cash donation of Forty Thousand Liberian Dollars ($40,000LRD) to citizens in the area as initial contribution to start the construction of a bridge over the Maya River connecting between Siadadu Town in Tagia Chiefdom, Foya Statutory District to the Gbandi Chiefdom.
The citizens in lower Lofa County are calling on others well-meaning Lofa citizens to help in the process of the ongoing manual construction while awaiting national government intervention on the main road.
